Building a Clayton 2" Scale Steam Wagon
designed by Robin Dyer

Rear Axle
The rear axle comes out of some free cutting mild steel. Having chopped up the piece into 2 to form each half-shaft, I roughed out the axle shaft on the Harrison 300 as it was a bit long for the Boxford.
The crown wheels bolt to the flange turned on each part. I first drilled the crown wheels on the Tom Senior using the DRO and then transferred the holes to the flange for drilling and tapping. The short one was easy, but to gain access to the flange on the long one I had to build a set up using an angle plate, V block and a long drill!
The shaft needs keyways cutting for the wheels, so back on the Tom Senior to mill the keyway.
