Making a start

Inner Wing

studs

Having sat in the garage for a few weeks I thought it was time to make a start. Offside first as this seems to be considerably worse than the nearside. My garage is quite narrow compared to the one I was used to at our previous abode so I can only work on one side at once. Todays effort, well not really an effort was to remove the offside front wing. Hardest job was the two front bolts which Don seems to have cobbled together from bits of studding.

The stud plate that should have attached the front valence to the wing had been replaced with a couple of 6mm bolts and large washers. They succumbed to the socket and sheared off which saved struggling. The bottom of the wing by the door pillar should have a tag attaching it to the floor but as there is no floor in that area it didn't need removing! The top tag which should be trapped under the bonnet hinge bolt was not attached so having released the wiring the wing lifted off easily.

I was surprised that despite the top of the inner wing being quite rotten the hockey stick section was remarkably strong.

The front of the hockey stick will require a little repair and the flitch panel at the bottom of the door pillar will need repairing.
